How to Get the Help You Need with a Medicaid Assisted Living Waiver

Healthcare is something that can be increasingly difficult as we age, but it’s something that should never fall by the wayside. At Watermark of Gulf Breeze Assisted Living & Memory Care, we participate in the Medicaid assisted living waiver program. This service is provided by the State of Florida to offer financial assistance to residents who need skilled nursing care but can no longer stay in their homes and wish to receive care in an assisted living facility rather than in a nursing home.

We encourage potential residents to call us and ask for Deana for more details and guidance on how this program can benefit them and if they are eligible. Take a look at the Florida Department of Children and Families website (www.myflfamilies.com/service-programs/access-florida-food-medical-assistance-cash/medicaid) to learn more about guidelines and the applications processes.

For seniors who need care but don’t have the finances to do it on their own, the Medicaid assisted living waiver program can bridge the gap and allow them to get the level of care and assistance they need as they age. You’ve given years working toward a future, and that future shouldn’t be one that stops being bright, happy and hopeful when you’ve reached a certain age. At Watermark, we are the only senior living community from Gulf Breeze to Ft. Walton to offer the Medicaid waiver program. This sets us apart from other senior care and assisted living communities in the area as one dedicated to offering care to everyone who needs it.

Facing the Factors

It’s important to know that age, functional ability and financial resources determine eligibility for the waiver. Individuals under the age of 60 are not eligible, and those between the ages of 60-64 must be deemed disabled by Social Security in order to qualify. Seniors 65 and older qualify if they need assistance for at least four activities necessary to functional daily living, but Alzheimer’s and other progressive medical conditions are also taken into consideration to qualify. Finances, of course, are also significant in determining eligibility, so income and assets will need to be assessed as well.

Our commitment to quality care is reflected in everything that we do at Watermark. We work with the State to make sure the seniors in the community are never overlooked. Our beautiful facility is one that we want to be a welcoming home, and financial assistance is sometimes necessary in order to make that happen. Rising medical costs can sometimes be prohibitive, so it’s crucial to know your own rights and research the options available as you make a plan for your future. It can, of course, be a bit confusing to understand on your own. We encourage everyone to speak with senior care experts who can offer guidance and help you navigate the steps necessary to proceed.
